Breast Reduction For Men (Gynecomastia)

If you are a man with a feminine-looking chest, you’re not alone. Gynecomastia, a medical term derived from the Greek words for “woman-like breasts,” affects many men. Enlarged breasts can be permanent, uncomfortable, as well as socially and psychologically devastating.

The GOOD NEWS is, they can be permanently corrected with surgery.

Male Gynecomastia Removal

During your consultation, Dr. Long, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will help you to feel comfortable explaining your goals and expectations, and he  will assess your existing anatomy to determine the cause of your breast enlargement. Male breasts may be formed from fatty tissue and/or glandular tissue. If  male breast reduction surgery is right for you, it will be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia and in selected cases under local anesthesia. The procedure can last from 2 to 3 hours depending on the extent of correction needed.

LIPOSUCTION FOR MEN

If your gynecomastia is primarily caused by fatty tissue, Dr. Long may recommend Liposuction. Liposuction surgery can actually remove unwanted localized deposits of fat cells from the body. A straw-like cannula is inserted through a tiny incision to remove excess fat cells.

The result is a resculpting of bulging breasts into more attractive contours.

TRADITIONAL SURGICAL EXCISION

If your gynecomastia is the result of a glandular disorder, Liposuction alone is not likely to be adequate. Traditional surgical excision combined with Liposuction may be a better option. Typically, the incision is placed on the edge of the areola (colored area of the nipple) or in the underarm area. Dr. Long will work through these incisions to cut away the excess glandular tissue, fat and skin from the breast.

Following surgery, you can enjoy a more masculine shape and enhanced self-confidence.
